THE PLAIN-LANGUAGE VERSION

Privacy

Effective September 3, 2026. Holleround is a local discovery and social app. This policy explains what information the service handles and why.

Information you provide

When you create an account, Holleround stores your email address, password hash, display name, selected avatar, and optional profile information. It also stores actions you choose to take, such as friendships, Pocket Lists, recommendations, reactions, check-ins, photos, captions, plans, game progress, Holler Token balances, inventory, reward openings, cosmetic unlocks, shop activity, and friend gifts.

Location and check-ins

Holleround asks for device location only after you choose a location-based feature such as “Locate me,” nearby or distance tools in the Adventure Map, checking in, or “Use my location once” in Holleround Now. For ordinary map browsing, the reading stays in browser memory to show your approximate position and calculate distance; Holleround does not write it to your account or keep a movement trail. A map camera position may be remembered locally on that device, but it is not treated as your home or shared with other members. Holleround Now does not retain raw coordinates in its recommendation session. If you explicitly check in, coordinates are sent for proximity and anti-cheat validation, and a verified check-in record, verification method, approximate distance, accuracy, and time may be retained. Holleround does not continuously track your location in the background.

Recommendations and Local Intel

Holleround may use your interests, Pocket saves, recommendations, check-ins, friends’ recent local activity, and feedback such as “more like this” to rank suggestions and explain why they appear. After a verified check-in, you may voluntarily answer short Local Intel questions about practical conditions such as crowd level, parking, or visit length. Individual answers are not displayed publicly. Aggregated trends appear only after enough verified locals have responded.

Google place information

When you open the Adventure Map, your browser requests the map, map tiles, and supporting resources from Google Maps Platform. When you select a supported place, Holleround may also request current photos, hours, phone information, website links, and map links from Google. Holleround retains the Google Place ID used to make that request but does not build a permanent copy of the returned Google place details. Google may receive technical information such as your IP address, browser details, and referring website while providing those features. Google’s handling of that information is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

Technical information

The service uses a secure session cookie to keep you signed in. It may process IP addresses and browser information for security, abuse prevention, rate limiting, and troubleshooting. Security records may be stored as one-way hashes where practical.

Product analytics

When you are signed in, Holleround records a small set of first-party feature events—such as opening Holleround Today, following a suggestion, using an Adventure Map filter, opening a place pin, starting directions, or finishing the daily loop—to understand whether the app is useful. These records identify the account and selected feature, but do not record a stream of map movements, precise browsing coordinates, private message contents, or advertising profiles. Holleround does not sell this information.

Who can see what

Your email address and password are never shown on your public profile. Your display name, avatar, bio, interests, recommendations, photos, lists, check-ins, and other social activity may be visible according to the privacy controls and audience shown in the app. Avoid posting personal information you do not want others to see.

Photo processing and moderation

Uploaded photos are decoded and rebuilt before storage so embedded EXIF and GPS metadata are not retained in the stored copy. New photos and recommendations wait for review before appearing publicly. Authorized moderators may review submissions, reports, relevant public context, and reported conduct to enforce the community guidelines. Reporter identities are not disclosed to the reported person.

Sharing and service providers

Holleround uses hosting, database, email, and mapping providers to operate the service. Information is shared with those providers only as needed to deliver their functions, protect the service, comply with law, or address safety and abuse. Holleround does not sell your personal information.

Retention and choices

Account and activity data is kept while it is needed to operate Holleround, maintain community integrity, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes. You can change profile visibility in the app. To request access, correction, or deletion, email privacy@holleround.com. Some records may be retained where legally required or necessary for security.

Children and changes

Holleround accounts are not intended for children under 13. A parent or guardian should contact us if they believe a child under 13 created an account. This policy may change as the service grows; material changes will be posted here with a new effective date.
